Heads-up for anyone running projects on a Claude subscription.
If you've been using the flat-rate subscription to run agents or automate projects, your billing is about to look very different.
I've seen multiple Redditors do the math: if they'd been on the Anthropic API instead of the unlimited subscription, their usage would have been billed in the 4 figures, not the 2-figure flat rate they were paying.
From June 15, the real price applies.
Agent SDK and claude -p usage stops counting toward your subscription and moves to a separate metered credit.
So we have ~3 weeks. Use them to tighten how your projects run: fewer wasted tokens, leaner context, smarter prompts. The habits you build now are the ones you'll be paying for in June.
And this isn't an accident or a temporary phase. Flat subscription + unlimited programmatic use doesn't hold up as a business at scale. Every major lab will land on the same split eventually: Interactive use → subscription. Programmatic/API use → pay per token.
This split is here to stay. Better to adapt now than be surprised by the invoice in June.
